How much does a comprehensive eye exam cost?
| Patient | Fee | OHIP |

The $98 and $118 supplements cover comprehensive imaging (retinal photos, OCT) and extended assessment beyond what OHIP funds. See our eye exam page for details on what is included.
What does OHIP cover for eye exams?
- Children under 20 -- one routine eye exam per year
- Seniors 65 and older -- one routine eye exam every 18 months
- Adults 20-64 -- covered only with a qualifying medical condition (diabetes, glaucoma requiring treatment, cataracts with reduced vision, retinal disease, and others)
OHIP does not cover glasses, contact lenses, or specialty services. For the full eligibility list, see OHIP eligibility and coverage.

Do we direct-bill insurance?
Yes. We direct-bill many insurance plans. If your plan is not set up for direct billing, we will give you a detailed receipt you can submit for reimbursement.
If you bring your insurance card to your appointment, we can check your coverage and let you know what to expect before we start.
Do I need to wait until my benefits reset?
Many patients time their visits around benefits cycles, and that is fine. But do not delay if you have:
- New or worsening blur
- Headaches or eye strain that is getting worse
- Flashes, floaters, or sudden vision changes
- Eye pain, redness, or light sensitivity
- Diabetes, high blood pressure, or other conditions that affect the eyes
If something has changed, book sooner. Your eyes are more important than timing a benefits cycle.
